Jumu'ah (Friday Prayers)
“Believers! When the call to prayer is made on the day of congregation, hasten towards the remembrance of God and leave off your trading. That is better for you, only if you knew.” - (Al-Jumu’ah: 9)
Jumu’ah Timing:
Khutba: 1.00pm - Jama’at: 1.30pm
Etiquettes of Friday:
The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever takes a bath on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, then uses his (hair) oil or perfumes himself with the scent of his house, then proceeds (for the Jumu’ah prayer) and does not separate two persons sitting together (in the mosque), then prays as much as (Allah has) written for him and then remains silent while the Imam is delivering the Khutba, his sins in-between the present and the last Friday would be forgiven." (Al-Bukhari)
Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Verily, Allah has made this day of Friday a celebration for the Muslims. Whoever comes to Friday prayer, let him bathe himself, apply perfume if he has it, and use the miswak. (Ibn Majah)
Reciting Surah al-Kahf:
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported: The Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever recites Surat al-Kahf on Friday will have a light between this Friday and the next.” (Sunan al-Kubra)
Al-Bara’ ibn ‘Azib reported: A man was reciting Surat al-Kahf and in his barn was an animal which became unsettled. As he looked, there was a mist or a cloud overshadowing him. He mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, “Continue reciting, for it was calm which descended with the Quran, or for the Quran.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
Sending Salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ:
Anas reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Increase your supplications for me on the day and night of Friday. Whoever blesses me once, Allah will bless him ten times.” (Sunan al-Kubra)
Aws ibn Aws reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Verily, the best of your days is Friday. Adam was created on it, on it he died, on it the trumpet will be blown, and on it the shout will be made. Thus, send blessings upon me often, for your blessings are presented to me.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, how are our blessings presented to you after you have passed away?” The Prophet said, “Verily, Allah Almighty has forbidden the earth from consuming the bodies of the prophets.” (Abu Dawud)
Arriving Early:
Aws ibn Aws reported: The Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever performs a thorough ritual bath on Friday, proceeds at the earliest to the mosque, sits below the Imam and listens carefully without talking, he will have a reward for each step he took a year’s worth of fasting and praying.” (Al-Tirmidhi)
